Lowrance owns Eagle major difference between the two is the Pixel count on the screen, Lowrance has bigger screens hence they cost more.

as far as which to buy, there are a number of units that will work.
i would suggest, that you visit a location that sells the type of equipment that you are looking for %26amp; have the sales person show you the 1's that are easy to operate
There are a number of GPS chartplotter/fishfinder combo units in your price range. Look for a unit that has at least 300-watts of power and operates at 200kHz. This combination will give you good bottom definition and mark fish well in water up to 200 feet deep.
You should plan on buying a unit with detailed cartography built-in, like some of the Garmin units have, or buy a card that covers your area.
