1986 Boston Whaler I need a little advice?

13' 50 HP tilt and trim, the question is is that to much engine for the boat?1986 Boston Whaler I need a little advice?
the 1986 13' boston whaler is rated for a 40hp max outboard motor. you can go this site for more info.

you may want to look into the legality of running a boat that has more hp that it's rated for

All 50's are not equal. Both in actual power and weight. An 80's 50 Evinrude/Johnson would run rings around the "Force" (Chrysler) 50 of that time. And the Evinrude 50 was a better and lighter engine than the older 40 HP Evenrude marketed for years. So, I've seen quite a few on 13' Boston Whalers. However you need to be mindful of the Max. HP. which is an indication of weight and safety. Boston Whaler came out with the 15' after my time with a Whaler dealer, so I don't have hands on experience with it, but I'd bet it would be a better choice with the 50 HP engine. So I'm a trade up kind of guy.......sell what you have, add a little cash and get what you want!1986 Boston Whaler I need a little advice?
I had a 50 with a jack plate. the only problem with the 13 it has a built in hull speed so over 20 Mph it will push the bow down I glass the bottom 20" from the stern but a square on the bottom and U will see the hook. It would pull 2 skiers.
