BMW 535i or Mercedes E350?

My dad's buying a new car and since I'm finally home for Christmas we got to go around test driving them all yesterday. I loved both cars, but they're so different in driving style. The BMW was incredibly fun to drive, but wasn't too smooth and the rear seat was a bit cramped (although more nicely furnished than that of the Benz), while the Mercedes was amazingly smooth and absorbed basically all bumps, but was just sort of disconnected when driving and the steering felt just a little too light. Which do you guys like based on appearance, experience if you have it, name affiliation/ etc?

The BMW cost a little more (63k sticker vs. 61 for the Mercedes), but comes with 4 years free maintenance. The guy at the Mercedes was also more open to negotiating price and offered 57k for it.

This is going to be my parents' car for most of the year and they'll be driving my little brother around in it. It's pretty much going to be mine when I'm home for Christmas and Summer, so about 4 months of the year.|||For the same money, your Dad can get a 2011 Infiniti M56 with the V8 and all of the luxury.

That's a 5.6 Liter engine with 420 HP...not a 3.5 Liter with 300 HP.

Plus the Infiniti is going to be way more reliable than anything European.

If he he stuck on 'settling' for the vehicles you described, go with the BMW.

If you look up the definition of 'overrated', there is a picture of a Mercedes.|||The new designs on both are stunning, however, I prefer the bmw.

The 535i looks just as nice, handles better, is faster, and gets better mpg. There is also a 1500 rebate on the 535i and dealers will be willing to negotiate. Figure the bmw to be a couple grand more than the benz, but worth it based on what you get. Then add in the free maint and it's a no-brainer.|||Both suck.

Buy an American made Cadillac STS.
